Noon on Friday February 7th, two members of the New York chapter of the United Front Against Austerity (UFAA) attended a protest across the street from the New York Stock Exchange.
At the steps of Federal Hall on Wall Street, the activists brought with them the ideas and program of the UFAA, to intermingle it with the varying messages expressed by activists who were primarily there to protest the recent cuts to extended unemployment benefits.
The other organizations present at the protest included the People’s Power Assembly, Fed Up and OccuEvolve, as well as many individuals with their own grievances.
In hopes to inspire passerbyers to learn about the UFAA’s program, activists carried several large eye-catching signs that read “1% Wall Street Tax” and “Nationalize the Federal Reserve” and also passed out related flyers. Rather than just adding to the broad call for jobs and benefits, the UFAA has shown itself, yet again, to be part of a true vanguard adding policy ideas to their protests - that if implemented at the Federal-level of government, could solve the ongoing economic crisis.
Special thanks to the People’s Power Assembly for organizing this event.
